The Normal Parks and Recreation department employs 33 full-time staff and over 500 part-time and seasonal employees. The department maintains a wide variety of recreation facilities including 19 municipal parks that span 700 acres of open space. Constitution Trail is a hard surface trail through the Twin Cities that spans over 45 miles. Additional facilities include two aquatic centers, an eight-field lighted baseball and softball complex, an outdoor amphitheater, a municipal golf course, a community center and a safety town highlighting road safety. The Department also provides and manages over 400 individual recreation programs that serve in excess of 10,000 people annually. Programs include aquatics, before and after school programs, cultural arts, adult fitness, teen programs, youth and adult sports.

LIFEGUARDS WANTING TO WORK FOR NORMAL PARKS AND RECREATION SHOULD EMAIL HANNA TO SIGN UP. HRAZO@NORMAL.ORG Lifeguards working for the Town of Normal Parks and Recreation Department will not be charged for the class. Passing class does not guarantee employment with NPRD. The Jeff Ellis & Associates lifeguard program offers the most comprehensive lifeguard training program available. Participants will learn the water rescue, CPR, AED and First Aid skills required to be a lifeguard. Potential lifeguards for the Normal Parks and Recreation Department are often selected from these classes. Although 15-year-olds may take this course, they will not be eligible for employment as a Lifeguard with the Normal Parks and Recreation Department. Registration takes place a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the first day of class to allow time for the completion of mandatory pre-course e-learning. Participants must provide their own (NOT a parent or guardians) valid email address upon registration. All required materials for the class, including the invitation to the online learning portal, will be delivered in electronic format. Please allow up 3 business days after registration to receive your email invitation. NOTE: This lifeguard class is for certification purposes only.
