All You Need to Know About
Trash Services Northampton Township
Make sure to put your trash & recycle carts curbside for collection the night before your pick up day.
As a reminder, any trash placed outside your cart will not be collected. However, you can get 2nd cart.
- Northampton carts must be used.
- Your carts should be at least 3 feet clear of any other objects including other carts, mailboxes, cars, street signs, etc.
- Wheels on your cart should be toward the house so that all materials are emptied.
- Be sure trash is bagged and lids are closed to prevent spills.
We cannot take:
- Hazardous waste including radioactive, reactive, toxic, ignitable, corrosive, or acidic items.
- E-waste including televisions, computers, etc.
- C & D includingconcrete, roofing, and other home remodeling debris.
Whitetail Disposal and Your
Trash & Recycle Equipment
Whitetail Disposal is servicing the majority of Northampton Township residents with automated trucks that utilize Northampton Township toters for collection.
Some residents will still be serviced by manual trucks and do not receive toters.
If you have a green recycle toter provided by Northampton township continue to use it.

There is no additional monthly cost for a 2nd cart.

Bulk services
“Bulk Waste”
Large items of refuse including, but not limited to, furniture, carpet, mattresses, and appliances normally generated at a residential property.
Each residential property shall be entitled to place one item of bulk waste at the curb or street line each week.
- Sets of items comprised of multiple individual pieces may need to be removed over several pick ups such as a “patio set.”
- This does not include construction material or items, hazardous items or material, or items that pose a significant safety risk to the collection team or community.
- For the purpose of reasonable collection, some items which are too bulky may need to be broken up and securely tied in bundles not to exceed 50 pounds in weight or three (3) feet in length and placed next to the containers at the curb or street line.
- Not all items can be collected with your normal truck and some may require a specialty truck that operates on a different schedule. Specialty items may not be included with borough service.

Recycling Services
If your recycling is contaminated, or includes items that are not acceptable according to the list below, they will be rejected.
Recyclables must be clean and dry. Do not bag recyclables.
Acceptable Items
All bottles and containers must be rinsed clean and dry.
Dirty recycling is contaminated recycling.
Shredded paper cannot be recycle.It clogs the recycling sorting line.
If paper is soiled or wet, compost or trash it.
Must be broken down.
If cardboard is soiled, compost or trash it.
Make sure containers are rinsed out and completely empty to avoid contamination.

Unacceptable Items
Plastic bags are not accepted as part of curbside recycling programs – they get tangled in equipment and threaten worker safety.
Plastic bags can be recycled at most grocery stores.
Plastic wrap, bubble wrap, sandwich bags and freezer bags should not go in the recycle bin.
Reuse whenever possible for presents, moving, or storage of similar items, or look for local options to recycle.
Flexible packaging like chip bags and juice or soup pouches cannot be recycled in curbside programs.
This type of packaging is made from multiple materials preventing it from being recycled.
Food and yard was cannot be recycled through our curbside program.
Compost or utilize UMT’s yard waste program.
Polystyrene foam, plastic “to-go” containers and cups are made of non-recyclable materials, and are not acceptable in the curbside recycling program.
Packing peanuts aren’t recyclable either, however some shipping stores will take peanuts back for reuse.
How to Bundle Extra Cardboard
Bundles should be 4′ long x 1′ thick or less.
- Breakdown and flatten all boxes.
- Stack boxes neatly.
- Secure with tape or twine.

Yard Waste and Leaves
Branches or shrubbery cannot extend over the top of the can or bag.
Unlimited yard waste will be collected and taken to a composting facility the day following collection of trash/recycling.
- Use biodegradable, 30-gallon paper bags or appropriate containers that do not weigh more than 50 pounds when full.
- Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected.
- Tree branches and shrubbery must be no more than 36 inches long and less than 3 inches in diameter. They must be bundled and tied, taped or put in biodegradable bags.
- Branches or shrubbery cannot extend over the top of the can or bag.
Yard waste should be put in your Northampton Township trash toter(s).
Trees will be collected the 3rd week of January.
Put your tree curbside with your regular trash and recycling. Trees will be collected the day after regular service.
- Trees over 6′ tall should be cut in half.
- All decorations must be removed.
- Do not bag trees for pick up.

DO NOT dispose of batteries in your trash or recycling.
Lithium batteries are highly flammable and potentially explosive.
Improper disposal is a major safety concern for the community and the disposal crew.

We recommend you repurpose you personal can to be used for yard waste or storage
If you cannot repurpose your personal can you can put it out for collection on your trash day. It should be empty, marked with a red X, and place upside down to let the driver know you want it removed.
